A SUMMARY ON THE STATES OF A PLATE

TRIAL PROOF:  As Marina creates a plate, there might be occasion where she wants to make a trial pull to see how things will look on paper. Normally there are only one or two, if any, trial proofs. These are characterized by being unique pulls that cannot be recreated.

ARTIST PROOF: After the plate is completed, or close to being completed, Marina will make a number of Artist Proofs. This is where she might decide that there needs to be some minor tweaks to the plate. It also is a stage in the process where she has opportunity to try different inking and wiping patterns. Artist Proofs normally are equal to 10% of the total edition.

EDITION: This is when the main body of the prints are created. Each one is consecutively numberd and identified with the outer limit of the edition. Marina prints her own editions. Furthermore she normally does only a handful at a particular sitting. Then she will come back weeks, or months, later to continue with some more.   In this fashion, members of the edition stay unique as she approaches each sitting with new ideas on the inking or wiping of the plate.
